An IFC or STEP without BIM or CAD software

An IFC comes out of BIM software such as Revit or Archicad, a STEP out of CAD packages such as SolidWorks or Inventor. Whoever receives one is almost never the person who made it: a client, an installer, someone who wants to see what is actually being delivered. That licence isn't there, and for a single look it can't be justified either. Here you drag the model into the window and turn it around. Click a part and you see the properties its author attached to it. Editing isn't possible; this is for looking and checking.

The 3D format you receive decides what you see

An STL holds shape only: triangles, no colour and no material. For a 3D print that is enough to check whether the right part was sent. OBJ, GLB and FBX do carry material and texture. If a model still looks grey, the textures were in separate files that never came along: an OBJ needs its .mtl, a gltf usually needs a folder of images as well. Ask for a GLB in that case — everything sits in one file, and the model then looks the way it should. The same window also opens ordinary photos, video and audio.

Big models and drawings that must not circulate

A building model of a few hundred megabytes won't go through email, and a tender document or a revised drawing isn't something you want to drop on an unfamiliar service either. Open a file here without logging in and it is read inside your own browser, so it never leaves your computer; when you are logged in, the viewer keeps it under My files so you can find it again later. If the model then has to reach a colleague or the client, send it as a download link instead of an attachment. Your mail programme's attachment limit stops mattering.
