Connect an AI assistant

Connect your AI assistant to Downloadlink

Then simply ask your assistant to create a download link, show which links are about to expire or find the right tool. No API key needed: you log in to Downloadlink and choose what the assistant may do.

Your account

Connecting an assistant is included in every paid plan, just like API keys.

You log in to Downloadlink while connecting. Already have an account? Log in

Claude on the web, on your computer and your phone

Following Anthropic's guide

You add Downloadlink once as a connector. Claude can then use it on claude.ai, in the desktop app and in the app on your phone.

  1. In Claude, open Customize › Connectors.
    Open Connectors in Claude ↗
  2. Click Add custom connector.
  3. Paste the address above as the URL. If Claude asks for a name, type Downloadlink. Click Add.
  4. Next to Downloadlink, click Connect. You arrive at Downloadlink: log in, choose what Claude may do and click Allow.
  5. Done. Turn Downloadlink on in a chat with the + below the input field, under Connectors.

On Claude's free plan you can add one custom connector. On Claude Team or Enterprise, the owner of your organisation adds Downloadlink under Organization settings › Connectors; then you click Connect next to Downloadlink.

Claude Code

Tested by us

Claude Code works in the terminal and can reach the files on your computer, so it can also turn a file into a download link.

  1. Paste this command into your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user downloadlink https://downloadlink.nl/mcp
  2. Log in with this command, or type /mcp in Claude Code. Your browser opens Downloadlink: log in and click Allow.
    claude mcp login downloadlink
  3. Done. The command claude mcp list then shows downloadlink as Connected.

With --scope user the connection works in every folder. If you already connected Downloadlink in Claude on the web and log in to Claude Code with the same Claude account, it is already there.

VS Code with GitHub Copilot

Following Microsoft's guide
  1. Click the button: VS Code opens and asks whether you want to add Downloadlink.
    Open in VS Code
Or, in VS Code, choose MCP: Add Server in the Command Palette, then HTTP, and paste the address above.
  2. VS Code asks whether it may sign in to Downloadlink. Allow it: your browser opens Downloadlink, log in and click Allow.
  3. Done. Downloadlink's tools are now available in the VS Code chat.

Cursor

Following Cursor's guide
  1. Click the button: Cursor opens and asks whether you want to add Downloadlink.
    Open in Cursor
Or put this in the file .cursor/mcp.json in your home folder:
    { "mcpServers": { "downloadlink": { "url": "https://downloadlink.nl/mcp" } } }
  2. In Cursor, click the sign-in button next to Downloadlink. Your browser opens Downloadlink: log in and click Allow.

This works in the Cursor app on your computer. Cursor on the web and Cursor's agents use a return address that Downloadlink does not allow.

What can you ask next?

Just in your own words. A few examples:

With Read

On by default when you connect.

  • “Which Downloadlink account is connected, and which plan do I have?”
  • “Which of my download links expire this week?”
  • “How often has my latest transfer been downloaded?”
  • “Find a tool to make a PDF smaller.”You get a link to the tool; it works in your browser.

With Create

You turn this on yourself when you connect.

  • “Put this text in a file and make a download link for it.”
  • “Make a download link for report.pdf in this folder.”In Claude Code, which can reach the files on your computer.
  • “Make a link my client can use to send files to me.”
  • “Extend my latest download link by a week.”
  • “Turn off the link of my latest transfer.”

How do I know it works?

Ask your assistant: Which Downloadlink account is connected? It then names your email address and your plan.

On your account page the assistant is listed under Connected assistants, with when it last did something. Go to Connected assistants

Revoking a connection

On your account page, under Connected assistants, click Revoke: the assistant immediately loses access to your account. Then also remove Downloadlink in your assistant.

A connection also expires when you change your password or turn two-step verification on or off. Then connect again.

An assistant can never send email on your behalf through this connection. Downloadlink does not edit files on the server: the tools run in your browser, the assistant gives you the link. Technical details for developers
