Open RVT files (also .rfa) — free, in your browser

RVT is the native, closed project format of Autodesk Revit, the BIM software in which architects, structural engineers and MEP engineers create their building models; an .rfa is a Revit family, a single component such as a window frame or a piece of furniture. Without Revit it usually does not open.

With the free downloadlink viewer you open a .rvt / .rfa file directly in your browser. Nothing is installed, and without an account nothing is uploaded either — when you are logged in, the viewer keeps your file in My files.

What the viewer does with RVT files

The viewer reads the model in your browser with rvt-rs, an open reader for the Revit format, converts it to IFC and shows it in 3D: you rotate and zoom, click elements, measure with snapping and make a section. The file is not sent anywhere for this.

Good to know

This is an approximate view, not an exact one: walls, floors and columns come out well, but doors and windows may be missing or differ, and a version other than Revit 2023 to 2025 makes errors more likely. The viewer always says so. If you want to see the model precisely, export it from Revit as IFC.

How it works

  1. Click Open your RVT file above.
  2. Drag your .rvt file into the window, or click to choose it.
  3. View it directly in your browser.
